Annandale Sports Club House League Volleyball
Established 2012
OVERVIEW
Annandale Sports Club (ASC) house volleyball program is designed as a developmental, recreational league. Teams are balanced with mixed abilities and grades 5-8. Our goal is to create a family friendly opportunity for girls in the Falls Church/Annandale area to focus on skills development with spirited competitive play. This league will provide opportunity for participation with minimal travel burden, time commitment and overall cost to the family.
TEAM COMPOSITION
All players that register will be placed on a team. There is no tryout and no cuts are made. Teams will consist of 9-12 players, depending on number of registered players and number of volunteer coaches. Teams are formed by balancing grade levels and skill level (as known).
PRACTICES/MATCHES
The season will run from Mid March thru early June. All teams will practice and compete based on a pre-determined schedule. All games/practices in 2013 will be held on Wednesdays. Players/parents cannot request a specific time for their team. Because we are using a Fairfax County Public School, our schedule is subject to change based on events/practices that are scheduled to be held in the gyms. Every attempt will be made to hold make-up sessions for missed days.
REFEREES/RULES
High school players and coaches will be asked to officiate all matches. ASC will follow the Official United State Volleyball (USAV) rules with some exceptions as noted in the rules descriptions.
CODE OF CONDUCT
Parents, players and coaches are expected to conduct themselves in a mature and professional manner at all times. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun environment for personal and athletic growth. Parents and players must sign a code of conduct and turn in to their coach prior to April 3rd.
SAFETY
No jewelry of any kind is allowed during practices and games. This includes watches, rings, earrings, braided strings or bands around the wrist or any other item that could cause injury. Parents must monitor/control children (siblings) who are in the gym and are not participating in the game. The gym is to be used only for volleyball – no other sports.
No food or gum is allowed in the gym. Only water in plastic containers is allowed. Parents, players and coaches are expected to clean up after their practice/match is over.
ANNANDALE SPORTS CLUB (ASC) PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT
Parents must understand the commitment their child has upon registering for an ASC volleyball team as well as their own commitment to good sportsmanship. The player is expected to attend every practice and game. It is incumbent on the player and parents to do everything in their power to meet this commitment, as well as support and communicate with the coach.
Parents also have further commitments in our program as follows:
1.Parents are expected to register and pay prior to the start of practice. Players/parents must notify coaches in advance if they are to miss any practice or team function.
2.Parents and players must do their part in getting to practice on time and in picking up players after practice on time. Coaches are not child sitters and would like to leave right after practice just like the families of our players so parents must be diligent in arriving on time.
3.Parents must refrain from communicating with their child while the child is practicing and playing under the coach’s direction. This includes during the game, while the player is on the bench, at time outs or at half time, unless the communication is of a personal nature unrelated to the sport. Parents should never direct their child to do something different then what the coach is teaching.
4.The coach will select the team and starting lineup for each game without parental involvement. Coaches will adhere to USAV substitution rules and may substitute when and who they wish. Coaches will attempt to give all players ample opportunity to play, however volleyball is not a times sport and some factors cause increased or decreased playing time. Parents should not offer unsolicited coaching tips as that demeans the role of the coaches in the program, who are volunteers knowledgeable in the area of coaching volleyball.
5. Abusive comments towards officials, coaches, other team's parents or players, or parents or players of their own team are not allowed. Parents or other spectators found guilty of this infraction will be restricted from attending games. Inappropriate behavior or comments by a parent will not be tolerated and that parent runs the risk of being suspended or terminated from the program in the sole discretion of ASC.
6.Parents should cheer positively for their own team and should never try to distract a player or yell abusive comments at other players. Parents found guilty of this infraction will be restricted from attending games.
7. If parents wish to speak with a coach about issues related to their child they should contact the coach via email whenever possible, unless it is an emergency.
8. If parents disagree with a coach regarding what the child is being taught they have a right to be heard and should bring the situation to the attention of the league coordinator. Opinions of outside personnel, or other coaches the child may have had, will not be considered and the ASC coordinator’s decision made in conjunction with the ASC president will be final. If the parents object to the final decision, an alternative is to remove the child from the program.
9.ASC strives to run its program to meet the needs of parents, children and coaches. If there is a problem parents are encouraged to deal with the situation discreetly and maturely. In the event a parent feels that his or her complaint is not being fully addressed by the coach, then that parent should contact the ASC league coordinator.
